M. Heminway & Sons Silk Thread Wooden Spool c1898-1915

Preloved M. Heminway & Sons Silk Company wooden thread spool, dating to circa 1898-1915. It is wound with a partial quantity of reddish-brown pure silk thread in shade code 3256.

The spool has embossed end-grain text and a shield emblem, and was originally warranted at 100 yards. The wood has surface wear, dust and lint, roughness around the central holes, and fine splits at the flange edge. The thread is irregularly wound with loose strands and a long free end, with darkened and discoloured sections consistent with age and use.
